Mike's Blog - Day 103
Day 1 for a new bamboo shoot in the tropical house, Bambusa arundinacea “variegata”.

It grows very fast and will reach the roof in about 2 weeks so we need to keep an eye on it. Once it’s gone up into the canopy of foliage we will lose sight of it and it has been known to push through the roof if we forget about it and don’t chop it off.
It came to us as a cutting in 1983 from the Botanic Garden in St Vincent.
The plant in the background is a Bromeliad (Pineapple family), the Painted Fingernail or just Fingernail plant, Neoregelia spectabilis.
