Mike's Blog - Day 111

An old picture for you today, of the Big Leaf Maple, Acer macrophyllum, when it was planted about 50 years ago in the North American Arboretum. Don’t mistake its stake for its broom handle sized trunk. On the right is similar shot in 2020.

To the left of both pictures you can see the Wellingtonias, Sequoia sempervirens.

Also a special flower for you today, a Bee Orchid, a very exciting discovery at a secret location within a mile of the garden. These were thought to be locally extinct.

Is the bamboo gaining speed?
