Mike's Blog - Day 117

I stumbled across this in the tropical house while trying to get in to take a picture of the Aristolochia in the tropical house.

It's “flame of the woods”, Ixora casei. (Hopefully we do have the name right for this one, as there are over 560 species of Ixora).

Widely  grown around the tropics as it seems to flower year round, but it's native to the Caroline Islands (Micronesia). I’ve never heard of these islands to be honest. It’s a group of approx. 500 small coral islands north of Papua New Guinea spanning over 2,000 miles. Looks beautiful.

I wonder if the bamboo shoot will make it to the node on the bamboo cane by the end of the week…
