Mike's Blog - Day 163

A plant we have had already today, (Peltiphyllum peltatum).

It was a long time ago when it was in flower at the end of April (Day 42). The flowers are followed by the huge leaves, so its common name of “Umbrella plant” makes a bit more sense now.

We need to transplant it as it's too big now next to the path and we need to let Graeme Hopper have space to install his artwork on the path sides - a Friends of the Botanic Garden project. It’s nowhere near as big as Gunnera manicata and can have really good autumn colour. So, if you have space and a damp spot, it’s a nice thing to have if you can’t cope with Gunnera.
