Mike's Blog - Day 173

It would have been the Orchid Show today at the college next to the garden. It’s a great (free) event and will hopefully continue.

So, a nice orchid from the greenhouse for you, once called Coelogyne massangeana but it might be called C. tomentosa now. They keep changing names of things.

A bit closer.

Even closer!

The genus is a name I could never get my head around as an apprentice. I called it a Kol-o-guy-nee, but the correct pronunciation is So-lodge-o-nee.

Not spectacularly colourful, but I’d love to see them for real in the mountains of Malaysia, Borneo and Java where they grow. They are epiphytic so you’d find them clinging onto the side of trees.
