Mike's Blog - Day 189

Autumn begins. It’s the Autumnal Equinox so from today the days get shorter than the nights and the nights longer than the days, today they are equal.

Quite a bit of autumn colour round the garden and the “Katsura” tree, Cercidiphyllum japonicum, is looking and smelling great.

It’s a lovely mix of golden yellow and warm browns. The wind was blowing the leaves off at quite a rate today, but if you stood on the carpet of leaves at the base of the tree you could smell them. They smell of burnt sugar or toffee.

I highlighted this tree and its smell on Day 53, never thinking the blog would be going on this long and we would actually see it again in autumn.
