Mike's Blog - Day 196

Evening primrose opens in the evening, so this morning, Ipomoea ‘Morning Glory’, an easy to grow climbing annual which gets a new batch of flowers at the start of each day.

And here it is in the children's garden.

Its flowers have quite clear marks directing insects to the middle. These have been a bit slow to get going this year. I think they like a bit more heat, but in the last month they have picked up a bit.

Many flowers close at night, or in rain, and open up in the sun, common dandelion for example. I wonder if this timing is where the term “clock” comes from for a dandelion seed head.
