Mike's Blog - Day 222

A pair of “Slippers” today from the greenhouse…Paphiopedilum sp. It feels like time to get your slippers on now the clocks have gone back and the dark nights are here for a while.

These are of no particular species. Just a couple of typical un-named hybrids that you often see in supermarkets.

They need to be grown in a warm greenhouse, but there are hardy Slipper orchids, (see Day 90, but I have sent it again anyway).

Slightly different Genus however. I never did find the label for it but I am pretty sure it was Cypripedium calceolus. I think we will divide it up in spring and plant a bit of it out in the Magnesian limestone bed and see what the rabbits make of it.
