Mike's Blog - Day 223

A rare find for you today, Earthstar fungus.

Professor Willis from Biological Sciences first discovered these last year. It’s been Identified as probably being Collared Earthstar and there have only ever been three records in Co Durham in the Biological Records Centre database apparently. Some of the only other records for earthstar species in the county date back to 1870!

It was nice to see they have come back again this year, same spot, in local university woodland by a main path just south of the garden.
