Mike's Blog - Day 268

We were rained off last week so a chance to get the Owl boxes painted.

 

We have been using the greenhouse space as a bit of a workshop but we can’t take credit for making the owl boxes. These are made of good quality external plywood and last well and, when it comes to lifting then up into a tree for fixing in place, they are reasonably light at 8kg (under 18 lbs). This style of owl box is suited to barn owls and has been designed by the Barn Owl Trust. The Barn Owl Trust have a really interesting set of images showing a barn owl as it grows:

These new boxes will replace some others that have dropped to bits in the fields down at the end of the lane overlooking some open fields near the Woodland Trust land at Low Burn Hall.
