Mike's Blog - Day 284

Boxing Day.

Obvious plant choice for today then, ‘Christmas box’, Sarcococca confusa.

Photos taken this morning. We have a couple of patches of this tidy small evergreen shrub, one in the woodland garden and the other in the winter garden.

Its flowers are not very showy, and often on the underside of the leaves, but it’s the smell that makes this little plant worthy of any garden.

Ideal for a small tub too so you could bring it close to house and catch its scent when you go out. The flowers also produce a mass of shiny black berries.

The Friends have bought a nice purple stemmed variety with pink-tinged flowers that we will plant in the winter garden once we have had a good sort out and tidy up in that part of the garden - the main project when we start back in the New Year.
