Mike's Blog - Day 291

A new footprint in the fresh snow this morning on my way to the bird hide. I’m guessing a grey squirrel this time.

Also a pic of what a mist net looks like and a caught up blue tit.

They are not distressed by this and just hang there and are soon collected up for measuring and checking.

Apparently one of the coal tits that was caught up recently was a re-trap which was ringed by the group as an adult in March 2015. That means it must have hatched before 2014, so it has to be at least 7 years old. Not bad for a species that lives for only 2-3 years. Perhaps the botanic garden is a good feeding ground.
