There was a nice witch hazel in flower in the winter garden last week, Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Jelena’.

I also noticed today the small plants of another variety the Friends have bought for there have started to flower too, a variety called ‘Magic fire’.

I like them both. The bright orange stems in the background of ‘Magic fire’ are of a dogwood (I knew I’d get a dogwood in again before the blog ended!), a small compact variety called ‘Midwinter fire’.
Heavy snow this morning and Durham seemed to come to a standstill. I walked in and had a nice view of the Cathedral from Mountjoy Hill.

A few shots round the garden of the white stuff.

The bamboo grove was so heavy with the wet snow, it was impassable.
