Mike's Blog - Day 64

This is the “fuchsia-flowered gooseberry” or “Californian Fuchsia” in the woodland garden, Ribes speciosum.

And in close-up.

Ribes species (ri-bees), are the currants and gooseberries, and this genus gives its name to the cordial, Ribena.

Its flowers may be Fuchsia like, but it’s not a Fuchsia.

The Latin name for Fuchsia is Fuchsia, it’s one of those where the Latin name is the common name, such as Rhododendron, Lobelia, Nasturtium and Geranium for example.
