Mike's Blog - Day 97

A new genus to the blog, Lilium, which you might guess are “lilies”. Athough we have had the giant water lily, water lilies are a different genus and different plant family altogether.

This is Lilium martagon , the Turk’s cap lily, currently in flower in the woodland garden. “Martagon” is apparently a Turkish word for turban or cap.

Also, there is a white form.

Lilium martagon is widespread, growing as far east as Mongolia and right through Asia and Europe down to Portugal.

It is highly toxic to cats apparently, so perhaps not a good one for the back garden.

Finally, I came across this, a new electric 5 seater jet called LILIUM. Is this the future?
