Plants & Seeds
One of the primary objectives of the Friends of the Garden is to raise funds
which can then be reinvested in the Garden. Apart from membership fees, we
have two activities which involve quite a number of members and raise
significant sums of money.
Annual Plant Sale
The first activity is held in early summer and is an opportunity for members to
donate plants of any description which we then sell at very
competitive prices. The activity is very weather-dependent and, at previous events, we have raised over £1000. Here is a report of one recent event.
Packing and Sale of Seeds
The second activity not only raises significant amounts of money, but also provides a
social event for volunteers. During the winter months, they can
sit in the warmth, cleaning and packing the seeds, having a good chinwag, and
enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. The seeds are either donated by Friends or are
collected around the Botanic Garden.
You can buy the seeds in the visitor centre at the Botanic Garden. We ask for a donation of £1 per packet. Our annual income from this activity can exceed £1,500.
Go on, buy it!
